Product Description |
The world of high-performance Jeeping can be a challenge. With the used Jeep market growing, new models appearing, and an aftermarket constantly offering new and better bolt-on parts and accessories, there have never been so many options for the off-road Jeep lover. Now in a new second edition, Jeep 4x4 Performance Handbook debunks the myths and eliminates the mystery of getting the most out of your Jeep through the thorough research and expertise of author and Jeep expert Jim Allen. He explains the bolt-on parts, swaps, and modifications that will give the most bang for the buck, whether you hit the trail in a CJ or a Wrangler (TJ and YJ), a Cherokee, or a Liberty, or one of the many classic and vintage Jeeps available. From bumper to bumper, this book covers it all, improving street performance and off-road toughness, towing ability and suspension, brakes and electrical systems, and the all-important safety equipment and modifications. Jeep 4x4 Performance Handbook will get you on the road and off without breaking the bank of wasting time in the garage. |

Four Wheeler Magazine Review, March 1999

| "Many will recognize the name Jim Allen from past tech and adventure articles published in Four Wheeler. However, in the continued spirit of writing about what he knows and loves, Jim Allen recently published his second book about four Wheeling, this one called the 'Jeep 4x4 Performance Handbook.' Offering a little bit of history, friendly advice, and a whole heap of information about Jeep aftermarket upgrade options, Allen delivers information for both hardcore and beginner alike, in a style both will enjoy. Some of our favorite chapters focused on suspensions ("Long Legs"), tires and wheels ("Footprints in the Sand"), brakes ("Whoa Nellie!"), and electrical systems ("Zap Rap"). For anyone considering a Jeep buildup or who just plain loves Jeeps, this book, at $19.95, offers as much information about Jeeps as you'll ever find in one place." |

| This is a very thorough and easy to understand book. It is extremely well written. It covers more than the Jeep vehicles themselves, it also covers Jeep accessories and how to use them, as well as all the basics of four-wheelin'. I highly recomend this book to anyone interested in Jeeps and their capabilities. |

| This is a great book if you are jsut getting into Jeepin, and don't really know (or understand) all the lingo or issues with building up your rig. It also gives you some great ideas for mods and the upgrade path to follow. |

| I am new to the Jeep scene and this is a great reference with lots of information that I felt would be useful. Diehards might say they already knew this information, or more detailed information is found in trade publications. |
